A Loving Farewell
At Sacramento Cat Hospital, we're not just a team of veterinary professionals—we're also devoted pet parents who eagerly return home to our own purring companions. So we deeply understand the heartache involved in facing end-of-life decisions.
Just as we provide gentle care during your cats' younger years, we're prepared to offer support and compassion as you navigate the emotional journey of end-of-life care. We see ourselves as partners in nurturing your cat's well-being and we're committed to standing beside you as you guide your pet over the rainbow bridge. We know that these decisions are incredibly tough, and we want to assure you that we'll be there every step of the way. We offer not only our veterinary expertise, but also the empathy and care that these tender moments deserve.
How Do I Know When It's Time?
Making decisions about end-of-life care is incredibly challenging, but as cat owners, it's our responsibility to prioritize our furry family members' health and comfort. Signs that it might be time to have an end-of-life discussion include:
- Lethargy
- Loss of appetite
- Bathroom difficulties
- Severe pain or mobility issues
If you feel it may be time to say goodbye, our team will complete a thorough and gentle examination to determine your pet's quality of life. We not only want to offer professional guidance, but also respect your wishes in these final moments.
What to Expect
When you are ready to say goodbye, we will provide you with a private and calm space to spend your final moments together. As part of this process, we want you to take as much time as you need. We encourage you to bring a favorite toy or blanket and soak in these last few moments together. Once you're ready to proceed, our veterinarian will insert an IV catheter. We will administer a sedative to relax your cat and induce a peaceful and relaxed state followed by the final medication which will allow your cat to peacefully drift off to sleep and cross over the rainbow bridge.
The team at Sacramento Cat Hospital can assist with aftercare arrangements such as burial and cremation to ease your burden during this challenging time.
