Meet Our Veterinarians

Dr. Kaur graduated from veterinary school in India in 2002 and moved to Sacramento in 2004. After completing her credentials to practice small animal medicine and surgery, she began her professional journey alongside her husband, Dr. Basra. Motivated by a desire to serve a close-knit community and truly know her patients, she joined their family-owned and operated veterinary hospital. As a second-generation veterinarian, Dr. Kaur credits her father as both her teacher and mentor.

One of Dr. Kaur’s greatest joys is building lasting relationships with clients—often spanning multiple generations—and she treasures the bonds she has formed over the past two decades. Dedicated to improving animals’ lives, Dr. Kaur supports local rescue organizations for both neonatal kittens and Labrador Retrievers, providing expert medical care and working closely with fosters to reduce euthanasia rates.

When she’s not at the hospital, Dr. Kaur is busy raising her teenage son and daughter. She enjoys staying active by working out at the gym and taking walks with her lively Sheepadoodle, Maverick. In her free time, she focuses on training Maverick in hopes of one day turning him into a therapy dog. Dr. Kaur shares her home with three beloved cats—Bob, Billie, and Olive—and regularly gives back to the community by teaching at her local Sunday school and volunteering at a community kitchen.

Dr. Brenner graduated from UCDavis with her MS in animal sciences in 2000 and her veterinary degree from UCDavis in 2004. She has spent the past 20 years splitting her time between private practice, shelters, and aquariums/zoos. In all these veterinary settings Dr. Brenner found herself drawn to cats. Dr. Brenner has worked in several feline only practices, has taken care of large cats in big cat sanctuaries, worked with many different species of captive wild cats in zoos, has volunteered her time spaying feral cats at shelters, and most recently focused on improving the feline care at Yolo County shelter when she was the interim veterinary consulting director. She is thrilled to now be at Sacramento Cat Hospital where she can ensure that her feline patients receive the most focused feline care available with the least stress. She can accomplish this through her training as a fear free and feline friendly certified professional. Dr. Brenner enjoys working with her pet parentsto help them learn to better care for their feline family members.

This love of educating and teaching has led her to help teach the next generation of RVTs and veterinary students. She spends time mentoring, teaching, and currently helps facilitate a course at UC Davis for veterinary students called Healer’s Art. The course is, “an innovative discovery model course in values clarification and professionalism.” Dr. Brenner, through her training for this course, and in facilitating the course, has been able to elevate the care that she provides for her patients and clients through more generous listening.

Dr. Brenner lives in Davis with her husband and her two teenagers. The Brenner family shares their home with severalrescues: a Gala cockatoo, 3 cats, and a dog. In her free time, she can be found on the mountain skiing with her family, gate keeping at herson’s races, at one of her kid’s club volleyball tournaments, at Club Pilates, or in her art studio fabricating jewelry, creating art with epoxy resin, or on her potter’s wheel.

Dr. Les graduated from the University of California, Davis and hung out his shingle as the only veterinarian within a 60-mile radius of Weaverville, CA. He later went into academia, for more than 30 years writing orthopedic materials and doing epidemiology research. He taught anatomy, histology, neurology, and statistics at NASA, the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, and the veterinary schools at Illinois, UC Davis, and Michigan State. He also served clinically during the Foot-and-Mouth Disease epidemic in Northern England. 

Dr. Les comes to Sacramento Cat Hospital returning to his first love, cats. He is owned, if not possessed, by an 18-year-old longhaired Snowshoe named Brighid ("We prefer 'Your Majesty'"), and a three-legged subversive Tortie named Peg.

Dr. Herrgesell is a second-generation veterinarian who completed his doctor of veterinary medicine and radiology training at the University of California, Davis. He has served on the faculty at UC Davis for 8 years as a lecturer and clinical radiologist.

He is well known on the national continuing education circuit for radiology and ultrasound training, and in 2005, he was awarded the Norden Distinguished Teaching Award at UC Davis. He continues to speak internationally on topics related to small animal radiology and ultrasound.

Dr. Dimock graduated with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from University of Californiam Davis in 2006. She went on to practice at a clinic in Bend, Oregon before returning to Davis in 2008 to complete the board certification exam and residency, becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology in 2011. She joined Veterinary Medical Imaging at that time.

Professionally Dr. Dimock takes a special interest in abdomina ultrasound, advanced imaging (CT and MRI), and equine imaging. Outside of work, Dr. Dimock enjoys traveling, hiking with her dog, and caring for her small goat herd.

Dr. Long attended California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, where he concentrated in animal sciences and biology. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Davis, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in veterinary sciences. Dr. Long received his doctor of veterinary medicine degree from UC Davis in 1994.

Following veterinary school, Dr. Long completed a mixed animal internship in medicine and surgery at the Country Veterinary Clinic in Live Oak, California. He then completed a 4-year residency program in radiology at UC Davis, leading to board certification as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Radiology. For 5 years he was a clinical instructor at the UCD Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.

Dr. MacKie received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Washington State University in 2005. Following graduation, he completed a one-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VCA Sacramento Animal Medical Group in Sacramento, California. After his internship, he moved to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to complete his residency training in Cardiology from 2006-2009. During his time there, Dr. MacKie helped implement the use of the Amplatz Canine Ductal Occluder for non-invasive treatment of a congenital heart disease, authored a paper on the use of an implantable ECG monitor for the evaluation of fainting in dogs, and assisted in prospective research on pulmonary hypertension and cardiac biomarkers.

His clinical interests include, but are not limited to clinical cardiology such as echocardiography and electrocardiography (ECG), pulmonary hypertension in dogs, syncope (fainting) associated with heart disease and arrhythmias, congenital heart disease, arrhythmias, and congestive heart failure (CHF). His goal in therapy for your pets is to maintain an exceptional quality of life for his patients with heart disease.

Dr. Vida is a graduate of the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. He completed a small animal medical and surgical internship at the Veterinary Specialty Hospital in San Diego, CA before returning to UC Davis to complete a residency in small animal surgery. He then worked as a clinical instructor in the surgery department at UC Davis before entering private practice in the Sacramento area. Dr. Vida’s special interests cruciate ligament disease (TPLO, CBLO, Arthrex TightRope system), limb deformities, vascular anomalies, oncologic surgery and minimally invasive surgery such as arthroscopy, thoracoscopy and laparoscopy.

During his free time, Dr. Vida enjoys almost all outdoor activities including running, biking, skiing, hiking, kayaking and scuba. He is particularly attached to his 200 gallon reef tank and spends as much time as possible with his wife, kids and pets.
